Sea fishing - an adventure not only on a boat
Fishing in the sea is something that every angler should try at least once in his life. Apart from beautiful views and the swoosh of waves, the sea guarantees us a shot of adrenaline in the form of hauls of beautiful and brave fish. It is, however, completely different from inland fishing - mainly because of the distance and depth, to which you have to deliver your lure before something gets interested in it, and also because of the specific conditions prevailing in the harsh marine environment. What are the methods of fishing at sea and what rods will we need for them?

Fishing rods for the sea and the rest of the equipment - general characteristics
Any rod intended for fishing in salt water must be very solid. Most often we are under the impression that rods designed for fishing in the sea are thick and clumsy, and fish can be pulled on them by pulling by force. Sea rods may look like the proverbial broomstick, but thanks to modern materials and technologies used during production, they are sensitive to every bite and allow for really spectacular catches. Since in most methods we fish with very heavy lures, the casting weight of sea rods is rarely less than 100g.

Everything that has contact with sea water must be resistant to its destructive influence. Salt is a real killer of reels, so for fishing in salt water you can use only models clearly marked as sea ones. As for rods, it is not worth risking their damage either, so it will be safe to use poles marked "Sea", "Pilk", "Salt" etc. Long casts require a lot of line, so it's not a problem to find a reel or multiplier with the largest possible spool capacity. With the most popular sea methods 200 m of line is a minimum, and we also need to remember about the appropriate line thickness. It would be best if the line was manufactured especially for fishing in salt water.

Cod fishing from a cutter is becoming incredibly popular in Poland. No wonder - it's a relatively easy method and a rich catch is almost certain. Fishing is simple: we take the boat out to sea, the skipper with the help of fishfinder and/or GPS guides the boat over the shoal of cod, anglers stand by the sides and throw their lures into the water. There are different techniques for tempting cod with a pilker rod, but there is no doubt that it must work the bottom. Bites are usually sure and frequent, the fun in such fishing is undeniable. The downside of cod fishing are the high costs, but there is no rose without thorns. In addition to the embarkation fee, we can pay to rent equipment, but the wisest thing is to equip ourselves.

Apart from a decent sea reel, the most important thing is, of course, the rod. Cod rod doesn't have to be long (the most popular models are 2.4-2.7 m), because we fish from the boat and we don't cast, but we let the lure go vertically down. The casting weight of a rod for cod may exceed 500g, but for our Baltic needs "up to" 300g models are usually enough. 300g.

Rods for trolling - it is easier than it seems
Sea trolling is probably the most complex and complicated fishing method. Its main feature is pulling a lure behind a moving boat, but in order for the lure to look properly in the water and not to cause trouble, additional equipment is needed, which is not used in any other method. Elevators, boards, doglegs, planners - these are just some of the accessories necessary for trolling. It takes a long time to learn all their secrets, and it has different results. At the moment of completing the equipment for sea trolling, the simplest thing is, surprisingly, the choice of a rod. The main condition that it must meet is very high strength. Fishing rods for trolling are rather short (preferred, universal size is about 2.5 m) and quite thick. However, they should not be too stiff, because in this method we catch really big fish and during the fight the parabolic action of the rod can help us a lot in absorbing the fish's spurts and keeping a constant contact with its mouth. The role of the trolling rod is limited to the hooking and hauling, so it is worth to focus on the parameters that will be useful in those moments and not to think about how the rod would work during casting or guiding the lure - those activities simply do not exist in trolling.

Surfcasting! What can be more beautiful during a vacation by the sea, than fishing from the beach? It is a great way to add variety to your holiday and to experience something completely different from inshore fishing. What can you catch from the beach? Many species of fish, and not only sea fish. Besides flounder, and also (though less frequently) belon and sea trout, in such a fishery we can find the well-known and popular bream, perch, ide and roach. Sea zander can also stick to our lure.

The key to success is to reach the hole behind the characteristic shallowing that runs along the beach. Usually it is about 150 m. from the shore. Such long casts require a capacious reel (necessarily a model adapted to saltwater) and a long rod. Surfcasting rods are at least 3.9 m long and their casting weight should be at least 150g. The lure must be sent into the fishery with enough weight not only for the length of the cast, but also to keep the line tight while waiting for a bite. Casting with a surfcasting rod is very spectacular, but it also requires a lot of strength and good coordination. Some models are equipped with a non-slip handle to make this task easier for the angler. After casting, we put the rod in a special support almost on a stiff stick (a bit like with a river feeder). The strikes are shown on the rod tip. Usually they are aggressive enough to be noticed on the rod. For lures we use only "meat". - Earthworms, larvae, marine crustaceans, and also fillets from fish.
